Getting a side out for this match was, shall we say a challenge. Stag dos, injuries and work all hit this weekend however a competitive game was had by all.
Gaffer Brennan initiated “bring a friend” along for this match and people didn’t disappoint. Ossett, Morley, Castleford and Wheatley Hills all wore the yellow away strip of Sandal today along with a cricketer - yes he wanted the game called off due to the weather!!
The Wakefield team found themselves two tries down early in the first half but rallied together go into halftime 15-14 in the lead. Rob Barker (cricket), Andy Gelder and Phil Sharp all touched down. Phil’s was particularly skilful as he showed his range of skills by diving in slow mo into the corner on the stroke of halftime.
Wheatley used the wind, a big boot and their many subs to good effect in the second half and ran out worthry winners.
All of the lads deserve a mention today so in no particular order: Dobson, Brennan, Knapton, Allison, Barker, Stanton, Sharp, Brown, Martin, Gelder, Jamie and Stoner.
Two special mentions now. The first to Wheatley Hills who leant Sandal two players and the second mention to Phil Sharp. Who at the age of 52 is old enough to have fathered most of the Wheatley Hills team!!
Next match at home on 30/3 against Wheatley Hills.
