• Name – Callum Burden
• Age – 23 (Tomorrow)
• Occupation – Structural Technician
• Sponsored by – John Dawson
• Position – Tighthead Prop
• Previous Clubs – Shawcross Sharks, Stanley Rangers (Rugby League) • Junior Club – Shawcross Sharks, Stanley Rangers (Rugby League) • Years at Sandal – 3 • Representative honours – Yorkshire County U19’s (Rugby League) • Favourite food – Steak and chips • Favourite drink – Guinness • Best Rugby Memory – Scoring twice and getting MOM for Yorkshire • Worst Rugby Memory – Getting surgery on my knee at 15 in my first year playing rugby • Toughest in the Squad – Will Henshall – hardest but nicest bloke in the team. Runs like an Ox and tackles anything coming at him. MOTM performer most weeks • Best Trainer – Jacob Holland (White Rhino) – Always strives for excellence in every training session he’s at and doesn’t accept anything less • Aspirations for 23/24 season – Finish the season unbeaten and as high up the table as we can where we belong!
• Player to watch this year – Jacob Holland – Walked into the team at the start of the year and has been a staple player throughout. Clearly one of the hardest workers on the field every week • A word from the DOR – Callum joined Sandal 3 years ago as a very raw rugby league player looking to get some game time with his mates who encouraged him to get involved. He had and still has fantastic skills, brilliant defence and is a devastating ball carrier. Having played a few 2nd team games in the second row he was given the unenviable task of having a go at Tighthead prop and has never looked back. He made his 1st XV debut last year proving that he can play at this level and can mix it with the best props in our league. Despite a couple of injuries this year he has been a mainstay in the 1st XV and is ever dependable. With only 3 years at the coal face under his belt, I’m sure with a few more years of learning the dark arts he will be a real handful to deal with and is certainly one to watch for the future.
