Members of the Rotary Club of Horbury & Ossett Phoenix Rotary club are match sponsors for this Saturdays Fixture.
As is the case each year, they are doing so in memory of past Phoenix Rotarians (several of whom were also former Sandal RUFC Social members). In the last 2 years they have said farewell to a long-standing Honorary Member, Richard Kendall, as well as Founder Member Ian Rayner, Member Dai Gifford and former Sandal RUFC Captain and President, Chris Taylor. They are all sadly missed.
Phoenix Rotary has an associated Charitable Trust Fund which (pre-Covid) annually raised
at least £20,000 from varied events - but mainly via the Horbury Show and Santa’s sleigh collections. After 28 years of running the Horbury Show, in 2024 Phoenix transferred it
to Wakefield Hospice. After continuing with their successful Santa’s sleigh collections
last December, Phoenix has just launched its 2025 SpringBids programme seeking local
charitable and community causes to support by providing small grants of up to £300 to
charities, clubs and other good causes.
